Is the most coomon mantra in Tibet. It is recited by Buddhists, painted on rocks, and carved on prayer wheels. The essence of all the Buddha teachings are said to be contained in this mantra. Literally meaning, ”AUM, to the Jewel in the Lotus”, this Tibetan mantra is said to invoke compassion. Tibetan people and almost al Buddhists believe that chanting this mantra of Chenrezig (the Bodhisatva of compassion) helps to rescue them from the sea of suffering and to achieve Buddhahood.
Repeating it is believed to purify the mind and body and the mantra is also used for protection.
OM (AUM): Helps you to achieve perfection in the practice of generosity. ”In chanting Om, you can transform your impure body, speech and mind into the pure body, speech and mind of Buddha.” (H.H. the Dalai Lama). Repetition of Om helps us maintain mental and emotional calmness, and to overcome obstacles.
MANI: Helps you to perfect the practice of pure ethics, tolerance and patience. Mani, meaning jewel, symbolizez compassion and love and the altruistic intention to achieve enlightenment.
PADME: Helps you to achieve perfection in the practice of concentration. Padme means lotus and symbolizes wisdom. Lotus grows in the mud but is not stained by it, thus it is the quality by which we live in the world but are not affected by its impurities.
HUM: Helps you ti achieve perfection in the practice of wisdom. It means inseparability and symbolizes purity. This quality can be achieved by combining wisdom with method.
